Painting along the Gibbon River
Yellowstone National Park
Of my many favorite spots in the park, this was one of the most enduring. The steady roar from the river was the constant soundtrack.
Yellowstone Falls from Artist Point
Yellowstone National Park
South Rim
Even though I knew it would be a heavily trafficked area, I wanted to try my hand at the iconic Artist Point along the South Rim of the Yellowstone Canyon.
This photo does not quite capture the waves of people streaming in, even early in the day.
Painting in the Lamar Valley
Yellowstone National Park
Late August 2020
Painting in the Lamar Valley embodied everything that was summer at Yellowstone: great vistas, lots of photo-taking tourists, and bison!

Bunsen Peak
color pencil, acrylic on linen
13 x 64"
Bunsen Peak is a prominent feature in the northwest corner of the Park. When coming in from Gardiner on a daily basis, you have the pleasure of observing it from all sides as you pass by to various destinations.

I've been told that the Yellowstone River at the north end of the Hayden Valley is where the wolves like to cross. I really enjoyed the contrast of the shaded forest on the east side of the river while the west side was lit as the sun rose. Mt. Washburn is in the background.

August 2020
The Yellowstone River between the Lake and the Falls is relatively placid, and spectacular. This is my first attempt at painting the river.

Mammoth Hot Springs
Yellowstone National Park
early August 2020
The very first painting I attempted at the Park. And the first lesson I learned was how intricate and detailed every scene was going to be.
